You may have noticed that things have been quiet around here lately. We packed up the Sienna on Friday and headed north to spend the weekend with a house-full of 7 families (14 adults and 15 kids). Packing for weekend trips with kids in your life is much more difficult than the days pre-children where you could throw a couple of outfits, a bathing suit and a bottle of wine into a bag and call it a day. Now I need to make sure that each child has their favorite toys and necessities like diapers and food.
When my kids were infants it was easy to pack food for them, especially while breastfeeding because I always had milk ready for them. Now that both kids are weaned and drink cow’s milk it has been tricky to carry milk on the road. My kids love chocolate milk and each drink about 24 ounces a day, but it isn’t easy to carry our glass milk bottles from our milk man (Munroe Dairy) in a suitcase or iced in coolers. Never mind the fact I also need to carry a sippy cup and find a way to clean it while in the car or airplane.
A perfect solution for providing kids with the nutritious milk they love while traveling is shelf safe milk:
Since shelf safe milk does not require refrigeration until opened, single-serving cartons can be taken to school, on camping trips, to sporting events or any other adventures without worrying about spoilage. You can freeze it the night before so it’s just the right temperature at lunch…but if you don’t get around to drinking it – no problem…put it back on the shelf (it will last 6 – 9 months).
After traveling with shelf safe milk last weekend, I guarantee you that it will be a regularly purchased item in our home. I loved being able to throw a box of milk in our car or diaper bag and knowing that I would have some milk for my kids wherever we were, just put the attached straw in the box and you’re ready to go.
Shelf safe milk is available in several different brands and flavors but my kids are fans of the chocolate varieties. I’ll be using shelf safe milk for outings, play dates, football games and days at the pool this summer. We also keep some in our pantry for when our power fails or if we run out of milk before our milk man comes. It’s not just for kids either, I will definitely use this while traveling to enjoy a nutritious drink on the road or add to my cereal.
Are your kids big milk drinkers?
Disclosure: I was sent samples of the milk in order to facilitate this review. As always, my opinions are my own.
