Up until recently, my toddler has never cared about what he wears for clothing or shoes. Whatever Mom chose was no problem to J. That all changed a few weeks ago when my Mom visited from Florida and took J & I on a mini-shopping spree to Carter’s (one of my favorite clothing stores for J since it fits him so well). After perusing the little girl section and picking up some adorable outfits for the baby girl we ventured over to the toddler boy section.
That’s where things got crazy. J was immediately drawn to a pair of black, Doc Marten look-a likes. All of my friends can tell you that I have joked that J would be Goth as a teenager because I dressed him so preppy as a baby. Little did I know he would want to go to the dark side at 20 months old.
He wanted to wear them out of the store the minute he laid eyes on them. In order to avoid having a trench coat toddler, I used the old distraction method and pulled out a pair of yellow Fireman rain boots from the clearance section. These have to be better than baby Doc Martens, right? He could always use them in the summer rain storms we get and they could also double as a Halloween costume since we got the matching rain coat! A win-win, right?
Wrong. This boy has not removed those yellow rain boots since he walked out of the store on that beautiful sunny day. Sun, rain, sleep he has those boots on! Were you aware that yellow fireman rain boots match everything? Shorts, swimsuits and PJ’s- you name it they work (in J’s eyes).
Honestly, it doesn’t bother me. It’s pretty cute to see J exert his young sense of “style” wanting to wear his boots 24/7. The only problem is the smell. I had no idea a sweet little boy could have that smell coming from his cute little feet. I took his boots off last night in his sleep and hid them in our closet, thinking a little break would be good for all parties involved. The first question he had for me this morning was “Mama, my boots?” I pulled them out and he wore them all day, no break for the boots or his little feet today.
Does anybody have any tips to help these boots not smell so horrible? He won’t keep socks on with them 🙁 Thanks for any advice! It doesn’t look like these puppies are going anywhere anytime soon!
