The only chair you’ll need for your children: Stokke Tripp Trapp®

Before I had children, I never realized how quickly your home is taken over by children’s gear: toys, clothing and furniture. Not all of it is a necessity but some things are: a crib (well, that’s even up for debate with co-sleeping) and a high-chair when the baby starts eating solids. When I was pregnant with Jackson, I researched baby gear until I thought I had read every review book and blog out there. I could have saved myself a lot of time by just talking to my mom friends who had already tried out tons of products with their own kids. If I had done that, I would have learned that the only chair to buy for a child is the Stokke Tripp Trapp® chair.

Had I purchased the award-winning Tripp Trapp first, I would have saved a ton of money on multiple high chairs that didn’t fit our dining room table and booster seats that don’t allow my kids to sit close enough to the table to eat. There are many features of the Tripp Trapp that have convinced me it is the only chair to own for my kids, here are a few:

  • This chair lasts. Children can use the Tripp Trapp from infancy through adulthood (it has a weight limit of 300 lbs)

  • It’s unique ergonomic design allows the child to sit securely and comfortably
  • The 5-point harness is easy to snap on and off, no more finagling to get baby legs into the harness
  • It allows your child to sit at the table and sit alongside the rest of the family, not towering above the table like most other high-chairs
  • It is beautiful! This chair is a gorgeous piece of furniture that I will gladly keep at our table, it fits right in with our mission style dining room set (we have the Walnut color Tripp Trapp)
  • Comes in 11 different colors
  • Easy to put together, it only took about 20 minutes!
  • Simple to adjust for your growing child, I know I’m not going to have to jump through a million hoops to adjust it after growth spurts
  • Accessories are available to make it your own style: a baby set, cushion, tray & table top
  • Easy to clean and maintain
  • 7 year warranty on wooden components and registration at www.stokke.com entitles the owner to a 7-year Extended Warranty

I first learned about the Stokke brand before I had children. A friend had her infant son in a Stokke Xplory® stroller and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. He sat up high in the Xplory and wasn’t staring at people’s knees while strolling. Then, after a long day ata 4th of July BBQ she was able to adjust the Xplory for him to easily fall and stay asleep. My first experience with the Stokke brand was one as a non-parent and now that I have 2 children, I’m constantly impressed with Stokke.

I wish I had known about the Stokke Tripp Trapp chair before I spent so much money on multiple high-chairs and boosters. While the Tripp Trapp has an initial investment of $249, it will outlast any other high-chair and will be a piece of furniture that can be proudly used forever. If you’re pregnant and need to buy a high-chair, please, save your money and invest in a Tripp-Trapp- you won’t be sorry!

  1. I’m obsessed with the Stokke Tripp Trap chair. I have always wanted one and I have no idea why I never got one. I think what happened is that when I had Averi 5 1/2 years ago, I didn’t know about it, so I bought a high chair and feeding seat that attached to our dining room chairs and then just passed them down to my other girls. But I’ve regretted not getting one b/c I have always lOVED THEM. I feel like I could get one for Charlotte still… in fact, I just now might. Thanks for the great review!

  2. Ahh, I wish I had found this earlier! My daughter is transitioning to more of a booster seat, which miraculously fits under our kitchen table, but in the meantime we used this ugly, white plastic Fisher Price high chair that was my son’s. Would have preferred this one MUCH more ;)

  4. I’ve been eyeing a chair like this for a while. B has definitely gotten to the point where he’s outgrown his high chair, but he’s too little for a booster at our table. So we keep putting him in the high chair for now. This chair would be a nice alternative, and way less clunky looking!

Nice but not many people can afford to spend over $300 on it!

    • Hi Erika, thanks for the comment! I agree that it may not be in everyone’s budgets, but considering how much can be spent on high-chairs and boosters, this is affordable since you can use it forever. I know people who have Stokke chairs with kids that are long out of the booster-age and still use their Tripp Trapp at the table! It would also be a great option for a group gift at a baby shower :)

  7. The weight limit on this is crazy. I think its a great investment and fits well with most of our homes. A plastic highchair is such an eye saw!

  8. That looks so cool. I have friends who are just having babies now, I am definitely going to tell them about this. I’m jealous.

  9. We have the Tripp Trapp and LOVE it! Honestly, it is the best high chair out there! We used the attachment still on one of them, and Hayley uses it as a regular chair. It is really neat!

  10. All you need to go along with it is our awesome Kiddy Platter children’s placemat & craftmat! :o ) Love to have you all review it!

  11. Stephanie says:

Love our Tripp Trapp! Agree with you, Joanna, on all points. Annabel now loves climbing into it by herself and even Madi (almost 7) and Andrew (9) will sit on it, if they want somewhere to “perch”. I know you have a learning tower, but for those who don’t, we also turn our Tripp Trapp around and Annabel will stand on the footrest, or kneel on the seat to participate in activities at our counter.

  12. We used booster seats with all of our kids but now we have a bench for them instead of a chair. This could be a problem when the new baby is big enough to sit at the table. I’ll have to look into this chair because I LOVE having my kids at the table and eating meals as a family. I think even toddlers benefit from the family table. Thanks for pointing me towards such a great product.
