Tonight, the 4 of us went to a local family-friendly restaurant called Chelo’s. It’s great for the kids because it’s loud enough that when Jackson is counting the utensils, “one, two, six, seven, eight, nine” no one notices he completely skipped over three, four and five (we’re working on that).
Our dinner was great- BC Man and I enjoyed our salads while Jackson ate some pasta and fries. However, I noticed a trend in our “dining out” as the meal progressed. My anxiety level rose the closer we were to finishing. Not because of our kids, they were angels {tonight.} My anxiety became sky high because of the “great dessert race.”
We are not a family that takes dessert lightly. It is a literal RACE to the finish. When the dessert plate hits the table the gates open and the forks get a work out until there isn’t a crumb to be found. Tonight was no exception.
The dessert of choice was banana cream pie and it never stood a chance. After BC Man bluffed he wasn’t going to have dessert tonight (ha!), we barely spoke a word as the forks were flying. At one point he whipped out his iPhone and snapped this shot* of me, with two forks “double-fisting” as he called it, holding Jackson and eating the prized dessert.
As we laughed about our “friendly” competition, which ALWAYS happens if there is a sweet around, I wonder if other couples are as crazy as we are when it comes to sharing a treat. I love that after being married almost 5 years we have these weird traditions like the “great dessert race.” Does your family have anything like this or we the only ones?
*This picture is great because it really shows how serious I take the great dessert race. Serious business, guys.
Oooh, I love Chelos. The one in my town left a few years ago though, I miss it. Little traditions like that are so fun. (Although we don’t share desserts…hence the reason I still have so much weight to lose.)
lol Megan, I always try to get individual desserts, but my husband INSISTS he doesn’t want any…
I have never been to Chelo’s. I guess I will have to check it out! My hubby and I are like that when we share a dessert too. It’s like we don’t want tthe other person to get more. 🙂
It’s pretty good food and great for families, you should def check it out!! Oh, and we definitely don’t want the other person to get more dessert 😉
hahah this is awesome.
We would cut someone over dessert. No joke!
So funny!! I love the pic too!! I admit to taking a big piece of dessert sometimes if we are cutting something in half!! ; )
