Boston Children’s Museum + Curious George

One of the things I love about little Rhode Island is our proximity to all things amazing. Where we live is only 45 minutes to the beach, 3 hours to New York City, 40 minutes to ski and only an hour to downtown Boston. You can’t beat that, New England is awesome.

Today was a perfect Sunday. We drove up to Boston and met one of my oldest work friends (back from my big blue pharmaceutical company days) at the Children’s Museum. Thanks to a good friend who is a member of the Boston Children’s Museum (Thanks Mandi!), we had a pass for 6 guests to spend hours wandering the floors of very cool exhibits.

Jackson and Sidney enjoyed playing with my friend Cynthia’s 2 kids and exploring the different rooms the museum offered. We could have spent all day there, but sadly we only made it through probably 20% of the rooms before the kids got hungry and it started turning into meltdown central. After the children’s museum we had lunch at a bakery around the block, Flour Bakery. The roast beef sandwich I ordered was probably the best roast beef sandwich I’ve ever had– it had french friend onions on it, such a cool twist. You can also order any sandwich on top of a salad if you’re looking to cut bread out of your diet.  Thanks to our friends for showing us Flour, I have a new favorite for lunch in Boston!

After lunch we said goodbye to our friends and took a quick drive to the Curious George Store in Harvard Square. There is only one Curious George store in the world so we had to stop in when we were only 15 minutes away! Jackson loved seeing all things George and they had a nice choice of unique gifts and it definitely was not an “only” Curious George store like I was expecting.

Jackson actually got sidetracked with some tiny, microscopic “good luck” animals and was hell-bent on buying them. Since I had told them this was his special, birthday trip to the Curious George store, I felt really bad not letting him pick what he wanted like we had promised. Cursing my promise under our breath, we reluctantly bought these tiny choker animals. In the 3 hours from when we got home until the kids went to bed we had 5 scares of Sidney swallowing the rhinoceros and whale. Those little things will find their way to my trash can tomorrow.

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and long weekend!

  1. I absolutely LOVE Boston. It’s a joy every time we go and it’s so nice to have it nearby. I’ve never been to the children’s museum–I’ll have to check it out! Also- it’s such a struggle with the whole toys you wanna give your oldest but fear your youngest will choke on. Definitely nerve-wracking for a while, but soon enough, they’ll both be able to play with the same stuff. Hang in there!
