This afternoon, my girlfriend and 2 of her 3 kids came over for a play date during the start of our latest snow/hail/freezing-rain storm. Over a cup of coffee, she asked me why I wasn’t attending the Style Week Providence like so many of my other blogger friends (Jen, Liza, & Audrey to name a few). I paused for a second and then looked down at my Tampa Bay Rays t-shirt and Gators yoga pants. Turns out, I’m not very fashionable or stylish. But I’m fine with that because you know what I like? Accessories. Especially in cold weather.
So when I’m loading up the minivan to haul the kids to swimming lessons, playgroups or story time, it is almost always while wearing yoga pants but I’d bet that I’ll be sporting some cute accessories. This year, my favorite go-to accessory for staying warm are a pair of Sorel boots I picked up at the Nordstrom Rack earlier this month. Warm, cute & functional- you can’t beat that! Another favorite is the tried & true blue shiny puffer coat that I bought at BJ’s a few years ago. It’s flattering and I get a ton of compliments on it, even though it only cost $40 from a warehouse club.
The extent of my winter “style:” coats, boots & scarfs galore!
So while my winter fashion extends to yoga pants paired with cute boots, coats and hats outside of the house, inside the house we are usually cuddled up by the fireplace. If you’re under the age of 4 there’s a strong likelihood there will be no pants worn either.
See that BC throw blanket next to the fireplace? There’s a little cuddlebug under there in a long sleeved Gap shirt and Thomas underwear. No pants needed because we stay warm and toasty near the fire.
What are your favorite fashion tips for the winter?
Any advice on how I can get out of these yoga pants and wear some real clothes? Thanks!
All of these pictures (except for the Sorels) were taken with my Windows Phone 8X, which has way more style than I ever will…

I also feel I have no style sense. So while I am super sad I didn’t go to the StyleWeek event tonight, I do believe I would have felt super out of place! I’m in yoga pants right now!! And an Army Strong tshirt I got at BlogHer. In the winter, I am huge on accessories. I’ve determined I cannot have enough scarves, which have been my go to to glam up pretty much anything lately!! Jeans, long sleeve t, and sneakers for the Children’s Museum? Throw a scarf on tied in a fancy way, boom! Instantly look less frumpy! ha!
I love those boots!! I need some good casual weather appropriate boots like that!

I don’t try to be super fashionable because it isn’t me, but I love accessoriestoo. Earrings and necklaces are my favorites!

I will tell you, I have a few lovely scarfs that I pair with my nice wool coat that make me look a bit snappy when I head out (and luckily they cant see what is under my wool coat and sassy scarves). Pair those sorels, your coat, nice scarf and sunglasses and you are good to go.
hehe! I just got Sorel Tofino boots this year and I’m in loooooooove. Seriously love. Oh, and my scarf collection could probably occupy it’s own closet. I’m working on it these days though – cute skinny jeans, pretty sweater, cute boots. Slowly but surely I’ll reclaim some kind of style too!!

You always look fab!!!
You always look great. It’s hard to even want to be fashionable when it’s so cold outside. And when you’re in your house? Comfort is King! I think accessorizing and confidence are both super important, especially when you’re all bundled up!

I used to live in yoga pants too, and last year’s “resolution” was to change that. Nothing drastic was done, but I bought jeans that fit in different colors and styles (I have 4 pairs). Mine are pretty boring because I’m not into the trendy colored jeans, but just by changing from yoga pants to jeans, I didn’t want to wear baggy t-shirts anymore. So after I bought jeans, I bought fitted tees. Nothing drastic, but out of yoga pants! This year I’m into belts and bracelets, altho bracelets get in the way during diaper changes. If I ever get mine or the girls’ ears pierced, I think earrings will be next on my list!
you are Hilarious joanna! you have so much more style than you think! i have always thought you always look perfectly put together. i may go to styleweek and all that, but i’m never happy with what i have on – and my day to day? is sweatpants or jeans. seriously. LOL my all around favorite fashion tips are to dress things up with jewelry. it totally changes any outfit.

Oh please. You always look cute! I have a pair of Sorel’s and love them. Totally love them. I am all about the winter accessories too…especially scarfs! Those are great photos!
First, I love those boots! Second, I’m in yoga pants everyday since having the baby. Today as I got dressed I said to my husband, “I like to put on clothes now that I can sleep in later!” haha You still sound like you’ve got some style there!

First, Those boots are SUPER cute!!
Winter time, I am always in yoga pants and l/s shirt around the house however if I do go out, I have FINALLY found an amazing pair of jeans from gap! But, I love scarves! They always compliment any outfit, even in spring! But I have found Old Navy always has cute and very affordable tops and they are comfy too!
