I’ve written about our love of Rock a Baby music classes several times in my 3 years of blogging. Rock a Baby is my favorite class I have ever taken with Jackson and Sidney. We are heading into our third year of enrollment and Jackson STILL loves to rock with Rock a Baby.
Rock-a-Baby is a dynamic, educational music experience for infants and toddlers ages four months to four years. Each week a different theme is explored with the help of puppets – Rhythm, Melody and Harmony. Three musicians/teachers lead infants and toddlers in an exploration of rock, pop, blues, traditional, and classical music genres by singing songs, interactive play, rhythmic repetition, instruments and dancing.
I’m so excited to be able to share their big news with you all: Rock a Baby has released their sophomore album, Introducing Rhythm, Melody and Harmony. Not only is there a brand new CD to enjoy, but also a beautiful book that has its own song on the album so you can sing along with your baby while reading their new book (also named Introducing Rhythm, Melody and Harmony).
When we received the package from Marc at Rock a Baby and I told Jackson who it was from, he promptly ran around the house singing the Rock a Baby theme song. He couldn’t wait any longer and we had to put the new CD into my laptop so he could sing and dance. Sidney was napping while we opened the package, but she has been enjoying the new music every time we are in the car or Jackson gets his hands on my iPhone.
I was immediately impressed by the CD’s artwork and the book’s beautiful illustrations. Marc Trachtenberg, the founder of Rock a Baby, told me all of the artwork was illustrated by a local Rhode Island artist, Devin Reilly. Devin is truly talented and it is such a treat reading a book that has such amazing artwork- even better that it is by a local artist! All music and lyrics (except tracks 8 & 15) were written by Rhode Island’s own Marc Trachtenberg who is an NYU certified music educator and has a B.S. in music education from NYU.
One of my favorite parts of the Rock a Baby classes is when the puppets, Rhythm, Melody and Harmony, read a book and sing along. I find myself trying to do it at home when I read to my two, unfortunately I don’t have a voice like Kate, Benny & Marc (the voices behind the puppets). As I previously mentioned, the book has its own track on the CD (Track 12: Introducing Rhythm, Melody and Harmony). This makes it super easy because I can put in the CD, then read/sing along to the music. The CD explores the concept of “Did you ever wonder where the puppets go?” and goes behind the scenes of the Rock A Baby puppets’ lives.
The CD is so much fun to listen to that I don’t mind a bit when my *almost* 3 year old Jackson insists on hearing it over and over again. And then again. The CD stars Kate Jones- vocals, voice of Melody, Benny Tilchin– guitars, vocals and the voice of Rhythm and Marc Trachtenberg– keys, vocals and the voice of Harmony. Kate has an amazing voice and I always wish I could sing like her when I hear her in class and on the CD, unfortunately it will never happen and Jackson will always order me to “no sing! Mama! NO SING!” when I try to sing in the car.
Fortunately for us, we are starting up the new session of Rock a Baby this week and we cannot wait! Sidney really loves music and since she is officially on the move she is going to have a blast in the fall session of Rock A Baby with her big brother. If you are looking for some new children’s music (and who isn’t?) you have to check out Rock a Baby Music Classes “Introducing Rhythm, Melody and Harmony.“
If you’re not local, you can purchase their CD & book from the Rock a Baby store or if you like immediate gratification (like myself) you can download both of their albums from iTunes – make sure you buy their book too though, they go together like peas and carrots 🙂
