Photography, through the eyes of a 2 year old

One of Jackson’s favorite toys is his Fisher Price Kid-Tough See Yourself Camera. Unfortunately, it got tossed into a basket in my office months ago (see: the abyss) so he has been on a photography hiatus. Today I uncovered it below the many “cords to nothing” and put some fresh batteries in it. Jackson was thrilled to have his camera working and the little shutterfly bounced around the house taking pictures of everything.

When he ran out of memory, he came up to me, crying, asking me to fix it. I pulled him up onto my lap at the kitchen island and plugged one of those “cords to nothing” into the camera and my laptop and showed him how to put his pictures on the computer. I had a moment of realization that my kids will never know what it is like to put film into a camera or have to drop it off at the drug store to get developed, then having to wait for days to see if their pictures even turned out. I feel so old!

Once his pictures “developed,” we got a kick out of seeing what he liked to shoot. Lots of Rex the dog, many Sidney candids and some artsy ones. If you’re looking for a special gift for you 2/3 year old +, you should try out this camera. It has survived falls down stairs and being wrapped around a toddler’s wrist for almost a year so I think it’s safe to call it tough.
