Dear Jackson,
Today you are 10 weeks old. These past 10 weeks have been the best weeks of your Dad’s & my life. Lots of people told us that life with a newborn is tough and that it could make our marriage rocky and life hard. Life with you is not tough, it is the opposite, it has never been better and your Dad & I have never loved each other more.
There’s nothing I love more than seeing your face smile up at me in the morning. You started smiling on your 6 week birthday for your Dad when he sang “The Itsy Bitsy Spider.” Since then you have even started laughing. You started out with a short “Ha” when your Dad was singing. I got it on film because I was videotaping you! This week at our New Mom’s Group you started really laughing, everyone in class heard and thought it was funny. You were trying to flirt with the 4-month-old Calliope next to you who can really belly laugh. You love to smile and wink at people, especially people like your pediatricians, Dr Madras and Dr Maranzano.
In other developments, your head and neck are getting so strong. You love to look around at people and have been called nosy by some. You just don’t want to miss a thing. That caused some problems with us because you didn’t want to take any time to eat, for fear of missing something. We learned you prefer to eat in a dark quiet room and if you have a bottle you would like to be laying on your side, facing us.
You’re going to sleep anywhere between 7 & 8 pm without a problem. You’ll wake up to eat around midnight then sleep for another 4 hours. Dad wakes up early and plays with you from 7-8 am then it is just us for the rest of the day. You like to take a short morning nap and a long afternoon nap. When you’re awake you love to listen to music, like the Laurie Berkner band, and dance around the room. Moving your arms and legs to the music will always get a good laugh from you.
This week we took an infant massage class and you have grown to love getting massaged. The first time you got a massage your Dad & I laid you by the fire after a bath and used the baby massage oil. You smiled up until I got to your belly and that is when you frowned for the first time. I think you didn’t know what to make of it, but you never cried and now you smile the entire time for your nightly massage.
Every day I am reminded how quickly you are growing up when the sunlight beams in on your new blonde hairs growing on your head. It is thicker and longer every time I look at it. As I have been packing away your Newborn size clothes I remind myself to cherish every day with you, you are growing up so fast! Thank you for coming into our lives and choosing us as your parents, we love you.
Love,
Mama
Way to make me cry. Such a sweet letter. Love the smiling for Daddy!
