“Kalorik Kristmas” Giveaway

One of the things I have missed most about living in Florida is smoothies.  When I was at the University of Florida, there was a smoothie shop on every block. This is not the case in New England. I have looked far & wide for a decent smoothie, to no avail.


We have needed a blender for years, so I was thrilled to review the Kalorik blender for “Kalorik Kristmas”.  I could finally make my own smoothies at home! I know it is getting cold here in New England, but I am the type of girl who drinks iced coffee & smoothies year-round so this a very exciting appliance addition to our house.


When I opened the box, I was surprised at how easy it was to set up. I just had to plug the base in, put the glass jar on the base and then put the lid on when I was ready to blend.


 

I decided to make a strawberry-banana smoothie for my Kalorik blender’s maiden voyage. Using my own recipe I put two cups fresh strawberry, one ripe banana, one cup of ice and 3/4 cup of yogurt into the jar.  The glass jar holds 48 ounces, which is the perfect size for whipping up some smoothies or margaritas. There are two available speeds and a pulse option, but I used the slower speed and it blended my smoothie perfectly in about 10 seconds. The ice was perfectly chopped up by its six stainless steel blades (two of them serrated) and the smoothie tasted just like the smoothies back home in Florida! Clean up was also quick and easy which is a must with a busy toddler “helping” all the time.



I’m very impressed with this blender. Its stainless steel look matches our other stainless steel small appliances and I foresee it going with us to many tailgates and Jimmy Buffett concerts. The blender I reviewed, the Kalorik BL Blender, recently received the Best Buy award from Cook’s Illustrated. I know it will last us for many years because Kalorik has been making blenders since the 1930s. Kalorik was one of Europe’s first manufacturer of small electric appliances and designs many different products, ranging from deep fryers to steam mops.
