Have you ever found an old diary that you wrote years ago and after reading its pages, it seems like it was written in another lifetime? That’s what this blog has become to me. It’s been online for over 6 years now, but mostly abandoned except for an entry here or there. What started out as a baby book for my eldest son morphed into a parenting journal and then became neglected when infant play dates were replaced with preschool and kindergarten volunteer days.
This blog was an outlet to share parenting trials and tribulations and to try new products that I thought some friends would be interested in trying. I loved writing here, it was my safe place in the huge web of the internet. It was somewhere for my family and friends in Florida to see how my little family was doing in New England and to follow along when I would document my first born’s milestones each week. I would open up my laptop when my kids were napping and tap away on the keys.
Now, 6.5 years into parenting I’m lucky to get family pictures taken once a year and there certainly isn’t any time to write down a weekly and monthly update on my kids. Could I make the time? Sure. There’s always time for what you want, but it’s not a priority for me.
My priority is my family and creating memories with them. Instead of sitting in front of my laptop, we’ve been kayaking around our local pond and sitting in ice rinks watching my oldest play a sport that he fell in love with nearly 2 years ago. I spend as much time in my car now ferrying kids to and from school and practices than I did as traveling sales rep.
My kids now have their own distinctly different and unique personalities and I’m not completely comfortable sharing their stories publicly anymore. Those are theirs to tell, maybe someday they will be writers and have their own blog. For now, they love to make videos for their YouTube channel with our guinea pigs and find random bugs to “build homes” for. As I’m typing this, Jackson has his journal out and is writing stories so maybe we do have a budding writer on our hands.
Why am I updating today? Because it’s a rainy Memorial Day and I miss blogging. I miss the folks I interacted with on here and I’m committing to get back to writing. I hope you have a wonderful day and spend it with the people you love, remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can live freely. xoxo -Joanna
Welcome back! Glad life gave you an opportunity to come back to something you missed. Share anything, anytime. That’s what blogs are for. Just not when you are ferrying kids b/c that could be dangerous. =)
Thank you Chris! Nice to hear from you 🙂
