My potatoes are boiling for tomorrow’s Thanksgiving meal at our place, so I wanted to pop in quickly and say hello. I won’t be around tomorrow for Thankful Thursday since I’m hosting turkey day at our house. My husband pre-ordered a local turkey from our market and I picked it up today. He ordered a 26-pounder. For 8 adults. You do the math– looks like we will be having leftovers for days (which is totally fine with me).
Apparently I’m going to need to wake up at 3 am to put the bird in the oven since we are having an early lunch at noon. I’m not very good at math, but my master chef friend Heather informed me that it’s going to take a while to cook that sucker. I’m excited to host our family & friends, despite not being a Martha Stewart I absolutely love entertaining.
Here’s our menu for tomorrow, items with a * are being brought by a guest:
2012 Thanksgiving Menu:
- Baked apple & cranberry brie with crackers
- Dinner rolls
- Brined & roasted turkey
- Pioneer Woman’s creamy mashed potatoes
- Paula Deen’s green bean casserole
- Broccoli casserole*
- Butternut squash & apple casserole*
- Pumpkin pie
- Apple pie
- Cookies*

Our turkey from a few years ago, at my cousins’ in VT
I bought a 3 pot slow cooker buffet server and was totally bummed when I unpacked it this afternoon to see that the crock pot portion is tiny. I need to have a better grasp of what 1.5 qt means when I buy something. Oh well, I’ll make it work! I’m making the mashed potatoes and green bean casserole today while the turkey brines in a cooler over ice.
What are you making for Thanksgiving?
Do you have any special traditions for this holiday?
Will you be shopping Black Friday (not me!)

You just made me hungry!! I’m making a turkey sausage stuffing for tomorrow and wrapped brie (yum). We’re dining at my parent’s house. Have a beautiful Thanksgiving with your family. Don’t forget to set your alarm! xo
Pretty traditional over here. The only thing I’m making that is not traditional is mashed cauliflower, because I can’t have mashed potatoes, and i would like something similar! I’m just excited to cook and have a quiet day with our little family and my parents. I love the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, so I’m really looking forward to that. And no way jose on shopping on Friday!! I’ll be decorating our house for Christmas!! π

So excited to find a fellow Rhode Islander’s blog!
We used Ree’s turkey roasting method, which turned out amazing! It was my second thanksgiving away from home (Texas), but we had a lot of fun with friends. It was also our first time hosting thanksgiving, which fortunately turned out great!
Thanks Haley! Welcome to Providence! I’m also a transplant from the south- Florida, not Texas. I hope you’re enjoying Rhode Island!!
