As you have probably read, Jackson is a picky/non-existent eater. One thing we’ve discovered that he will *almost* always eat is a McDonalds Happy Meal (chicken nuggets & fries). The fact that we get him a Happy Meal as often as possible makes me a little sick because I was one of THOSE people before I had kids and swore my sweet child would only eat organic, bla bla bla. Then I had a kid who after weaning decided he wouldn’t eat anything. At all.
Having a child who refuses to eat altogether brings out a desperation in parents that makes them do crazy things. If J would eat a cupcake every meal, I would be giving that kid a cupcake for breakfast, lunch and dinner. He needs calories to grow, whatever way I can get them in him. Since the beginning of our failure to thrive diagnosis, his eating habits have improved slightly (with one caveat: as long as he isn’t teething). An improvement with him means he will actually eat now: a bite of nugget and almost always some McDonalds french fries. Which brings me to our extensive Happy Meal toy collection.
As you may or may not know, McDonalds Happy Meals now have Smurfs for toys. We have way too many Smurfs for our own good right now, all lined up on the train table and the living room ottoman.
Tonight, my husband was asking J the names of all the Smurfs. J proceeded to name Smurfette “Mama” (she’s the only girl so that wasn’t surprising) but the highlight of my night was when J picked out Panicky Smurf as “Dada.”
To give my husband credit, he normally isn’t a panicky person, but building a home (especially during the end of pregnancy) is enormously stressful. My little man must have picked up on some of this stress floating around. I keep repeating to myself, only 6-8ish more weeks and we will be getting settled in our new home with our daughter. That’s not too long at all, right?
In the mean time, I’ll be picking out the last of our house stuff: cabinet hardware and final paint colors while scheduling movers and getting quotes from landscapers, sprinklers and fencing companies. Only 6-8 more weeks.
