My little Porkchop had her 2 month shots on Tuesday morning. Birthday shots as an infant are way less fun than birthday shots as an adult. It was harder than I remembered with Jackson and I *might* have almost cried. For the baby who never complains, seeing her frown-turned-scream broke my heart. Vaccinations are a must in my eyes though so it had to happen. Better some tears now than a life-threatening illness later (my Dad had polio as a child and I used to sell pharmaceuticals so I’m about as pro-vaccinations as you can get). Regardless, it still stinks to see your little munchkin in pain and irritable for days.
Before she got jabbed 3 times though, she had a great appointment and is perfectly healthy. She weighed a hefty 11 pounds and six ounces and was 21 inches long (the doctor doesn’t think they stretched her enough though) and is bringing in the 60th percentile for weight and head circumference. She is hitting all of her milestones and showed off to the doctor by smiling and cooing. Needless to say, I’m a proud Mama.
It is so much fun seeing her personality grow every day. She is more laid back than Jackson ever was. Nothing phases her: dogs barking or toddler SHRIEKS! I have to write it SHRIEKS because that is exactly how it sounds coming from Jackson and it is SO hard to ignore. She loves to sleep, her binkie and eating every 3-4 hours during the day and often going 6-7 at night. She likes to be held for a little, then wants “alone” time in her swing or boppy pillow (I’ve never been a big cuddler either). The best thing is her reaction to her Daddy. The BIGGEST smile and laughs when he just looks at her. Even he thinks it is crazy that he probably changes 1 diaper every couple of days and she is all about her Daddy, already a Daddy’s Girl. She also loves her big brother, even when he piles his toys on her. My heart explodes when I see them interact. He gets a baby voice and says “HI SIDNEY!” and squeals as he hugs her face. She lights up whenever her brother is around. I love it.
We are getting the hang of this “family of 4” thing and I’m feeling more blessed than ever. I thank God every day for my loving husband, healthy and happy children and the best friends one could ever hope for. I’m ready for Christmas and am hoping that 2012 will treat my friends and family better than 2011.
